OMPP: Onshore Maintain Potential Project Program
Despite the headwinds, the local and global demand for Oil and Gas is increasing. Saudi Arabia currently controls 19% of global oil reserves, 12% of global production, and more than 20% of oil sales in the global market. Thus, to maintain its position, the Kingdom is committed to increasing MSC[1] rate from 12.0 to 13.0 million barrels of crude oil per day to satisfy the increasing demand and supply the local and global market. To meet and maintain the Kingdom’s ambitious MSC rate, Saudi Aramco has initiated multiple programs discovering and maintaining new hydrocarbon resources across the Kingdom.
Saudi Aramco has set up Onshore Maintain Potential Programs to provide upstream facilities to withstand oil and gas production from the newly developed and existing oil fields. The main objective of the OMPP program is to produce adequate quantities of Gas and Oil. It starts with Exploration followed by Drilling, construction of Well Sites, Tie-ins, Flowlines, Trunk lines up to the product delivery points at the processing plants such as Gas/Oil Separation Plants (GOSP).
GCC contribution comes through its work on constructing well tie-in piping for more than 100 newly discovered wells and counting. GCC is performing all phases of well Tie-in piping including wellsite trunk lines and flow lines to gas-oil separation plants, construction work for a communication system, electrical construction work, and water injection pipelines construction. The project was awarded in 2017, and so far, GCC has achieved more than 2 million safe Man-hours in 2021.
GCC possesses accumulated knowledge and expertise in the construction of the OMPP facilities starting at the Well Head Tie-in and extends beyond the main scope of the project as this expertise encompasses the supporting facilities such as Cross-country pipelines, Overhead Power Lines, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition units (SCADA), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), fiber optic cable, optical transmission equipment, Ethernet switches, and Cathodic protection.

[1] MSC: Maximum Sustainable Capacity is the average maximum number of barrels per day of crude oil that can be produced for one year during any future planning period, after taking into account all planned capital expenditures and maintenance, repair and operating costs., and after being given three months to make operational adjustments. (Aramco Report 2020).
